The thinking behind MATRIX

Six letters. Eight thinkers.

One perspective can miss a critical dependency. MATRIX brings mental models, resilience, computation, portfolio thinking, behavioral insight and strategy into the same conversation.

Munger / Mental Models

What am I missing?

Charlie Munger

The idea

Look at a decision through several useful models. Invert the question, examine incentives and consider what could go wrong.

Applied in MATRIX

Review cash flow, liquidity, concentration and protective controls together. MATRIX keeps urgent findings visible alongside the overall screening index.

Ask yourself: If this plan failed, which dependency or assumption would be the likely cause?

Inspired by Charlie Munger, Nassim Nicholas Taleb, Alan Turing, Harry Markowitz, Daniel Kahneman, Michael Porter, Peter Drucker and Richard Feynman. These ideas guide the framework; the current engine uses transparent screening rules. The names describe intellectual influences and do not imply endorsement or affiliation.

Your context comes first

Personal decisions. Business realities.

Choose the assessment that fits your situation. The questions adapt to personal finances or one of 20 broad business-sector categories.

For individuals

Understand how your finances would handle a change in circumstances.

  • Cash flow, emergency reserves and debt pressure
  • Income and investment concentration
  • Loss capacity, protection and digital security

A useful starting question: Could my cash buffer support me if my income stopped?

For businesses

Review financial resilience and the dependencies behind day-to-day operations.

  • Cash runway, operating costs and debt payments
  • Customer, supplier and continuity exposure
  • Cybersecurity, compliance and sector-specific controls

A useful starting question: Where would a disruption put the most pressure on my business?

Sector prompts cover areas such as manufacturing, retail, healthcare, construction, finance and professional services. They help focus a review; industry-specific audits and probability models are outside the current assessment.

  1. 01

    Set your context

Choose personal or business, your currency and, for businesses, a sector.

  2. 02

    Enter what you know

Add financial figures and controls. Identify estimates, keep unknowns visible and record the date of your information.

  3. 03

    Review your exposure

See a screening index when enough information is available, question coverage, dimension explanations and urgent findings. Higher index values indicate more vulnerability.

  4. 04

    Act and revisit

Use the initial actions to focus your review. Save when you sign in. Add scenarios and scheduled reviews with Pro, or more profiles and detailed reports with Elite.

Know what is behind your result.

The current index uses published screening rules and self-reported inputs. It is educational decision support, not a prediction of loss. Coverage describes how many applicable questions you answered, rather than predictive confidence.

A few useful answers

Before you begin.

What does MATRIX stand for?

M is Mental Models, A is Antifragility, T is Computational Intelligence, R is Risk & Portfolio, I is Irrationality & Bias, and X is Cross-domain Strategy. These six perspectives bring together ideas associated with eight thinkers. They are the intellectual inspiration for the framework.

Can I use it for myself or my industry?

Choose personal finances or a business assessment. Business setup offers 20 broad sector categories, including manufacturing, retail, healthcare, technology and professional services. The sector changes the review prompts. The current engine screens financial and operational vulnerabilities; specialist industry judgments still need the appropriate expertise.

What can I do for free?

Complete a personal or business assessment, see your screening index when enough information is available, review urgent findings and get initial actions. No account or payment card is needed to try it. Sign in to save assessments to one active profile.

Does MATRIX predict the future?

The current engine applies transparent screening rules to information you enter. Its index summarizes vulnerability under those rules; it is not a probability of loss or an AI forecast. Scenario results depend on the assumptions you choose.

What does Pro monitoring track?

Monitoring schedules private reminders to review a saved profile and can flag concerning results when you save an updated assessment. It uses your saved assessments and review schedule; it does not continuously watch live bank accounts, markets or business systems.
